When I dedicate an entire blog post to a single serum or skincare product, you know that it’s good. I test out quite a bit of skincare but have been trying to limit new additions into my routine until I can dedicate the necessary time to seeing how they work, what results I get and whether I would use it again after finishing. I started testing the Mother Science Molecular Hero Serum a few months ago after having it in my skincare closet for a while. Then I began seeing a few other bloggers and content creators share their love for it. So I was immediately intrigued and added it into my regular routine.
The Mother Science brand is a relatively new skincare brand. And this is currently their only product (though I do hope they come out with more soon!). The Molecular Hero Serum is formulated to help fade dark spots, transform texture, reduce fine lines and support the skin barrier. It can be used in the am or pm. But I added it to my evening skincare routine while testing it. Here are my thoughts on the Molecular Hero Serum and if I would recommend it.
Mother Science Molecular Hero Serum Review
The Mother Science Molecular Hero Serum addresses many skin concerns. So it may be a great replacement for various products in your routine if you are looking to streamline your lineup. I added it to my evening routine about 4+ months ago using it every other night. It took nearly a month for me to begin to notice any changes. So I always advise being consistent with a new product for at least 4 weeks to determine if the product is working. The key ingredient in the formula is Malassezin, which is 10x more powerful than vitamin c in helping reduce and fade dark spots.
Packaging
I love the solid silver packaging and the bottle itself feels quite weighty. There is a pump dispenser which pumps out just enough product to cover the entire face.
Price Point
It’s $89 for 1 oz which is definitely steep and an investment. However, I do feel that it can treat a number of concerns and replace other serums that target only one of these problems. So it could be valuable if you are looking to simplify your skincare routine.
Skin Type
The Molecular Hero Serum is designed for all skin types. Though I definitely feel this is a product that will work best for those who have anti-aging concerns. Someone in their 20’s or even early 30’s could see results. But they may not be as profound as more mature skin types will. And if you are spending this kind of money, your skin should benefit fully from these powerful ingredients.

The main “hero” ingredient is Malassezin, which is a breakthrough formula that is a 10x more powerful antioxidant than vitamin c, especially in reducing and fading dark spots. Niacinamide helps hydrate and soothe and even out the skin tone. Alpine Rose Extract improves elasticity and reduces redness.
Benefits of Mother Science Molecular Hero Serum
Fades dark spots
This is the main focus of the Molecular Hero Serum and what it is designed to target the most. Hyperpigmentation, dark spots, sun spots, acne scars – the serum is great for addressing any and all of these concerns. I began to notice the slight fading of dark spots first when using this and slowly that became an overall evening out of my skin tone. I would wake up the morning after applying this and my skin looked like I was wearing foundation because it was so even and clear!
Reduce fine lines and wrinkles
Additionally, this serum will help smooth out fine lines and wrinkles. For me, my skin definitely looked supple and firm especially around my jawline where I have noticed a small loss of elasticity.
Maintaining the skin barrier
This does not replace my skincare products that intensely nourish my skin barrier. But I did not experience any dryness or irritation from using this.
Brightening
While this does go hand in hand with the fading of dark spots, I did notice an overall improved clarity and brightness to my skin. My complexion looked smoother and more even the longer I was using it.
How To Use the Mother Science Molecular Hero Serum
AM/PM
The brand advises to use the serum twice a day for the most optimal results. I personally used it only in the evening every other night and still saw amazing results. I plan to begin increasing my use to daily and may switch it to my morning routine once I have finished what I am currently using.
Layering
You can easily layer this serum with any other anti-aging treatments or serums you currently use. I’ll be honest though, it does not state on their site if it can be used with retinol but I have used it with my retinol and did not experience any issues.
Wear Sunscreen
This is a non-negotiable even if you aren’t using this serum, but especially if you are! It’s designed to fade dark spots and wearing sunscreen during the day is necessary to ensure you protect the skin and not ruin all the work that the serum has done. LOL
Use All Over
Though it is designed to fade dark spots, it’s not a targeted treatment only for those spots. It’s best used all over the face to get the most benefits and best results.
I’ve been thoroughly impressed with the Mother Science Molecular Hero serum and am about to begin my second bottle. It’s definitely a splurge but the results have been worth it for me and I will continue to keep this in my routine!
