White Pencil Skirt Outfit

Though I love wearing white jeans year round, I usually save all my white skirts for spring and summer. Especially a crisp white pencil skirt – there is nothing better than wearing that to the office on a gorgeous spring day! I posted this specific outfit a few years ago so all the exact pieces are sold out (I will link similar finds) but thought I would share an inspo post for styling a white pencil skirt in the spring and summer. White pencil skirts are so versatile and can be styled a ton of different ways – dressed up or down and suitable for a variety of occasions.

It’s key to find one that is high quality and not see through but you don’t necessarily have to spend a ton for that. I picked two white skirts and styled each two ways. One skirt is traditionally more professional and suitable for an office, while the other is a denim pencil skirt which is so on trend at the moment.

Business Casual Outfit with a White Pencil Skirt

This pencil skirt is a traditional style that we all think of – slim fitting, simple and goes straight to the knee or slightly below. A classic wardrobe piece especially if you work in a more corporate or professional setting. If your office is a tad more forgiving in terms of wearing something sleeveless and allowing open toe sandals, this is exactly the kind of look that I myself would wear when I used to work in an office.

Sleeveless Sweater

I love the square neckline of this and slight cap sleeve which gives it a polished flair, while the gold buttons elevate the piece.

White Pencil Skirt

Simple and chic. A timeless piece you will have in your closet for years to come.

Strappy Sandals

While these sandals would look great with this sweater/skirt pairing, this style of sandal would be a great staple to have in your closet. Wear them to weddings, graduations, baby showers, evenings out, etc. The simplicity of the style make them appropriate to wear with almost anything.

Cream Shoulder Bag

I specifically chose this color bag for this look to be a mix of the tan and white together. It doesn’t necessarily match but it effortlessly works to create a neutral theme overall.

Gold and Silver Bracelet

Since the sweater is sleeveless and the gold button detail is up around the neckline, opt for a statement bracelet instead of a necklace. If you decide to wear earrings, go for something very small and barely visible.

Corporate Professional Outfit with a White Pencil Skirt

For anyone that needs to wear a suit to the office every day or wear only professional attire, this is the perfect look for spring and summer. You could always choose a matching white blazer to wear with the skirt, but I like the idea of off setting the color palette slightly by wearing a cream jacket and adding in some texture with the tweed fabric.

Tweed Jacket

I love that tweed cardigans and lady jackets are still trending so heavily because they are truly such a chic and polished piece to add to your closet. That are obviously appropriate for a professional corporate setting, but I love styling them with jeans and trousers as well to dress them down a bit.

White Pencil Skirt

Simple and chic. A timeless piece you will have in your closet for years to come.

Slingback Pumps

Not everyone can wear an open toe shoe to the office so these closed toe slingback pumps are gorgeous and a great price point. Also, they are not white and again create a bit of an extended color palette to the cream jacket and white skirt. It all blends together and doesn’t have to match exactly.

Textured Tote Bag

I didn’t want to choose brown or cream for the bag because it felt too dull or expected, but opting for a muted yellow/mustard tone was a nice way to add in color that still worked with the entire look.

Gold Drop Earrings

You could obviously still wearing a necklace or bracelet but the high neck and long sleeves of the cardigan will prevent it from being visible so choose a simple statement earring to complete the look.

Weekend Brunch Outfit with a White Pencil Skirt

For this mix of outfits, I chose an off white denim midi skirt for those that still love the idea of a pencil skirt but want something more casual and relaxed. Though you can dress this down a ton of different ways, a white denim pencil skirt is best for more casual or off duty occasions.

Striped Boatneck Tee

There is nothing more classic than black and white. Since the denim skirt is high waisted, I love the idea of a boxy cropped tee paired with it. Skip the belt with this one because it will be too heavy with the striped top.

Denim Midi Skirt

I personally LOVE the denim midi skirt trend and wore mine all last summer. The idea of a white or off white denim midi pencil skirt is perfect for spring and summer. And I prefer one with a slit up the front because it makes it look more casual and relaxed.

Strappy Flat Sandals

You could choose a nude sandal but I do like the idea of tying together the black top with the black sandals. Especially with bare legs, choose a delicate strappy black shoe. A black flat or black closed toe shoe could be too heavy and look unbalanced with a bare leg and such a light and spring-like look.

Colorful Tote

This is where you can have some fun and add in a pop of color! Any color would do but I personally love a watermelon pink or red with black and white. If you don’t want to add some color with a bag, choose a fun punchy lip color or colorful bracelets instead.

Gold Hoop Earrings

For this kind of relaxed look, throw on some hoop earrings that are perhaps a bit larger than what you would wear to the office or to work.

Creative Business Casual Outfit with a White Denim Pencil Skirt

I think of a look like this suitable for a creative industry that doesn’t necessarily have a dress code. Art director, graphic designer, public relations, etc – a denim on denim moment with some sparkly flats is such a fun and vibrant way to style a simple white skirt.

Western Chambray Shirt

A chambray shirt will always be in style though it may not be trending at the moment. It’s simply a button down blouse in a fabric that looks like denim. Therefore it will always convey a more casual vibe. And I like the idea of wearing it with a denim pencil skirt for that denim on denim look.

Denim Midi Skirt

I personally LOVE the denim midi skirt trend and wore mine all last summer. The idea of a white or off white denim midi pencil skirt is perfect for spring and summer. And I prefer one with a slit up the front because it makes it look more casual and relaxed.

Crystal Ballet Flats

These are VERY trendy at the moment but frankly I absolutely LOVE them. They add some femininity to a more classic outfit and give a bit of texture and sparkle too. Also, anything metallic or embellished with clear crystals will always be considered a neutral so it can be worn with almost any color palette.

Neutral Suede Belt

I would recommend tucking in the chambray shirt and then adding a belt to really bring the look together. Dark brown is too harsh and black is not a great option, so choose something in the taupe family with either gold or silver hardware.

Neutral Tote Bag

I own this tote in black and it is by far one of my favorite bags in my entire closet. It’s sturdy, holds a ton and looks incredibly chic. This color pairs nicely with the white and taupe and can easily be worn with so many other looks in your closet.

What to Wear to Work in summer

The heat and humidity has officially arrived and summer is now here. Summer is an easy season to dress for when it comes to casual looks, but office dressing can always be tricky. Back in my corporate days, I would walk to work in NYC and completely melt from the warm weather before I reached the office and then immediately freeze when I walked inside. It’s like dressing for two totally different seasons when it comes to office looks in the summer. Creating chic office style looks when dealing with the heat and humidity and then a commute is not an easy task. The key is choosing looks that are breathable, comfortable and can possibly be layered. I rounded up some of my recent looks that will give you ideas of what to wear to stay comfortable and stylish while working throughout the summer season. I also like looks that can transition past the office so many of these pieces could be styled in other ways or transitioned to evening events or outings just by simply changing shoes or your handbag.

What to wear to work in summer

Boucle/tweed jackets

Boucle/tweed jackets are timeless and are a great closet staple to have. They can be easily dressed up for a work environment but also work casually with jeans for the weekend. Right now boucle jackets are so popular right now and there are a ton at various price points. I love the black one I am wearing above because it has different buttons down the front which gives it a unique flair. This style jacket has a very Chanel-esque vibe and styling them with wide leg trousers or even these satin cargo pants gives it a fresh modern take. Think fashion director meets ladies who lunch. LOL It’s also a warmer option to wear over a camisole or tank when your office is negative 5 degrees all day long. I’m also wearing one of Express’ Body Contour bodysuits under the jacket and the entire line is a must have for your closet and especially for your work outfits. They have a ton of basic styles that are great for layering or wearing alone.

Wide Leg Trousers

Trousers have always been a workplace staple, but I am loving how they are being styled now. Wear them with pumps for a more corporate environment, sandals for a business casual workplace or even style them with sneakers for a relaxed work atmosphere. A great pair of linen trousers like the ones I am wearing in the first photo are perfect for the summer heat, but I also love these cropped wide leg pants I found on Amazon because they are so breathable and comfy.

Fitted Dress

Fitted Dress | What to Wear to Work in summerDress | Sandals | Bag

I’m always a fan of a simple fitted dress because it’s so easy to throw on with some shoes and a bag and go. Choose something simple in color like black, white, gray or tan and make it more exciting with great accessories, a chic bag and statement shoes. You can never go wrong with a classic black dress for work. My hesitation always when wearing a dress with buttons down the front is my concern for gaping, but with this dress the buttons are only for show so there is no concern about having a wardrobe malfunction during the day! Ha! I always recommend sizing up in a fitted dress if you plan on wearing it to work and then go with a smoothing or minimizing bra and seamless underwear or lightweight shapewear.

White Blazer

A white blazer is not just a staple for summer workwear but a basic wardrobe staple. It will work for a more professional environment or business casual or you could style it with a cute tee, denim shorts and flip flops for the weekend. I’ve shared this hack a few times over on my Instagram but use a hair elastic to scrunch up your sleeves to a 3/4 length for a more stylish and effortless look. Put your hair elastic over the blazer a little above your elbow and then push up the fabric so that the elastic holds it in place. I’ve been doing this trick for years with all of my blazers and have always loved the look.

Wrap Blouse

As someone who is on the busty side (I wear a 32DD/E), I am always on the hunt for blouses that are flattering and can be versatile in my wardrobe. Wrap style blouses and tops have consistently been a go-to for me for years because they manage to minimize the appearance of a large chest but can also flatter those with a smaller bust. However, it has to have a clasp or hook on the front because I cannot be worried about anything coming undone when I’m out or in the past at my previous corporate job. I absolutely love this wrap bodysuit because it fits so well but there is a hook at the front so it is guaranteed to stay closed. It’s a great option to wear alone or layer under a blazer or suit jacket.

Bright Colors

Bright Colors for the officeBlazer | Bodysuit | Pants | Shoes | Sunglasses | Bag

Obviously this will depend on exactly where you work, but I highly recommend adding some bright colors to your summer office style. It’s an instant mood lifter and summer is a great time to wear things that are more vibrant. Personally, I gravitate towards a neutral color in a brighter shade such as this green set which still feels within my comfort zone. Again I’m wearing my white blazer with this look – it’s an absolute necessity for your summer closet (and it will keep you warm in the summer office air-conditioning tundra)!

Tote Bags

This Naghedi braided tote bag is one of the best tote bags I have ever used and perfect for carrying to the office as well as using for everyday errands. I have it in black but it comes in a ton of different colors. It’s super sturdy and flexible and looks so chic too!
