The thing I most look forward to each summer is the ease of getting dressed. No coats, no scarves, no tights, no 13,000 layers – just sandals, a dress and I’m out the door! I picked up this Line & Dot dress almost a month ago and it has been taunting me since then. It’s been a bit too chilly each time I wanted to wear it, so Memorial Day weekend seemed like the perfect time to finally bring it out. While most people go away for the summer holidays, my husband always has to work so we end up having a staycation at home and finding things to do in the city that are different from our regular routine (dog park, errands, neighborhood eats, grocery shopping, blah, blah, blah). Even though Central Park is only 20 blocks from my apartment, we rarely go there to wander around. So that’s exactly what we did this past weekend. We got lost for a few hours, ate popsicles and tried not to have an agenda. Am I the only one that finds that hard sometimes? I find it difficult to let myself not have plans, and not feel like I have to get stuff done. It can feel like I’m “wasting time” but that’s exactly what I need to do every now and then. With having a full time job and then blogging almost the same amount of hours as my full time job every week, I can begin to feel like a hamster on a wheel. But then I realize that life keeps moving regardless of what I’m trying to accomplish, so it’s ok to step off the treadmill once in a while. It will still be there when I get back.
