Bits and Pieces: Patterns In The Tropics

| , , , , ,

It pains me just a little to write this post, since I am now back from vacation and seeing these photos is like a punch to the gut. TAKE ME BACK!!!! If you didn’t know, I recently went to Grand Cayman for a few days and it was delightful. We swam with sting rays, snorkeled the Barrier Reef, ate more than we should and lounged on the beach every single day. It was glorious. But I have to say that my favorite part of visiting warm weather vacation spots is the chance to wear every brightly colored item in my wardrobe. I recently purchased this DVF skirt and felt it was perfect for my trip. I wore it to dinner on an island that required transportation by boat and it was so comfortable and easy. Lightweight enough to keep me cool but heavy enough so as not to succumb to a wardrobe malfunction from all the wind on the boat. And of course these sandals look familiar because they have been a staple in my summer wardrobe since I bought them last year, and I am slowly collecting as many pairs of Loeffler Randall shoes as I can! I have this pair as well and love them! But the only thing they can’t do is transport me back to Grand Cayman if I click my heels together. Ugh, reality is so harsh.

Bits and Pieces: Cocktail Dress

Does everyone else face the same “what to wear” conundrum when they receive a wedding invitation?  And what to do when no dress code is specified?  I for one, immediately run to my closet and hope it will show me the perfect outfit as if it were the great and powerful Wizard of Oz.  Sadly, my minuscule closet just stares blankly back at me, leaving me clueless.  So when faced recently with the aforementioned scenario, off I went in search of the sartorial wedding guest holy grail.  I knew I wanted it to be short, and versatile for other occasions – beyond that I was fuzzy on the specifics.  I had seen this classic DVF Zarita dress many times before during my online window shopping.  But once I stopped to actually read the reviews, I was convinced it was the one.  Naturally it came in a gazillion colors making the decision infinitely harder, until I saw this particular turquoise shade was on sale – and I put in my cart before anyone else could grab it!  I’m sorry, I’m an only child.  But let me tell you, once the dress arrived, it fit like a glove, was ridiculously comfortable and made me feel neither over nor under dressed at said wedding – in other words, the perfect “wedding guest” dress.  Actually, the perfect ‘special occasion’ dress to be honest, and I am even contemplating purchasing it in other colors.  For size comparison, I am wearing a 2, which is true to size for me.  It’s worth the splurge for sure, but if you can grab one of the seasonal colors on sale, even better – I consider it the equivalent of winning the fashion powerball.
