“To buy into or not buy into” – that is the question.  I am talking about beauty product hype.  So much anticipation and excitement is often built around product launches that it is hard to decide what to and what not to follow.  As someone who doesn’t typically follow the hype behind a new brand/product, I was surprised when the buzz surrounding the Marc Jacobs beauty line piqued my interest.  I loved the packaging initially, and when sneak peeks of the items began to surface, my curiosity turned into a desire to buy.   So there I was the day of the launch at my local Sephora swatching everything I could – and I was quite impressed.  I decided to go with a nail polish, lipstick, mascara and liquid lipstick for my initial introduction.  I can say with confidence that this will not be my last purchase from the line.  The standout winner by far was the nail lacquer in Blue Velvet (see swatch here).  With only one coat needed to create opacity, this gorgeous navy blue with shimmer wore for almost 4+ days with little to no chipping.

The lip products immediately excited me because of the range of colors and textures offered.  I settled on a nude lip gel in the color Roleplay and a lip vinyl in the shade Paint It.  Both have been on rotation almost daily since purchasing.  The lip vinyl in the full texture is thicker than a normal gloss with intense staying power.  I find the shine wears off eventually (which I prefer) and leaves a stain on the lips that wears for many hours.  The lip gel is a tad less hydrating than the lip vinyl, but gives an opaque color payoff and this pinky-rose shade is perfect for everyday.
My least favorite of the items, however is the mascara.  The formula is glossy and thin, giving a more natural looking effect than I prefer.  For someone who likes a softer and longer lash, this would be a perfect choice.  I did try to apply a few coats, but it did not get as thick as I would have liked. However that being said, I am still pleased with the overall line and am excited to go back to purchase more items.  If you have been waiting patiently to make your move, I would highly recommend giving it a go.  For now, the line is sold exclusively at Sephora and select Marc Jacobs boutiques, but I have heard rumors that it may eventually roll out into department stores.
