Memorial Day has come and gone – which means it’s the unofficial (I can never wait until the exact date – patience is not my strong suit) start to summer!  Here in NYC, this long weekend began with temps in the 50’s and rain – not nice.  But how it ended was absolutely perfect – sunny, no humidity and temps in the high 70’s.  A maxi dress seemed like the right outfit to celebrate such an amazing day.  Being vertically challenged at 5’3″, I always have a love/hate relationship with maxi dresses.  While many stores offer petite sizes (GAP and Old Navy to name a few), often I just have to order and then alter as I did with this one.  I find that dresses with a straighter body and less flare tend to work better on my smaller frame and also are easier to hem without changing the fit of the dress.  And since I have not yet invested in a denim jacket, I thought my heavier weight denim shirt could double as one when tied at the waist – it works, yes?  Not one to over accessorize, I fell instantly in love with this chic and classic Yochi cuff bracelet sent to me by Max & Chloe – which will surely be in heavy rotation with every single outfit I wear this summer.  And my ‘welcome summer’ look would not be complete without a straw fedora, or as I like to call it – my SPF 100.  Keeping up a pallor this pasty white takes work people, it does not come naturally! (yes it does)
How did you spend your Memorial Day weekend?  And more importantly what did you wear???  Any petite gals out there have any other good maxi dresses they are loving?
