The cold weather is officially here and all I want to wear are all the cozy things. That includes cardigans of all lengths and styles. Oversized cardigans are great because they can replace outerwear on those mild fall days but can also be a great layering piece when it gets colder. How To Wear Oversized Cardigans
Balance the silhouette
When wearing an oversized cardigan, it’s a good rule of thumb to balance that out with slimmer fitting pieces.
Keep the base layer fitted
To avoid adding additional bulk, choose a fitted bodysuit or tee underneath the cardigan.
Add a belt
If the cardigan seems to be TOO oversized, add a belt to create some shape and structure.
Wear with a monochromatic look
One of my favorite ways to style a longer or oversized cardigan is to keep the base outfit all one color. I love wearing a printed oversized cardigan over an all black look.

This cardigan isn’t terribly oversized so I decided it could work with a bulkier base layer like a button down shirt. The cardigan itself is quite thin and has a slim fit which works well with a blouse.

This oversized cardigan is a mix between a blazer and cardigan so it’s a better option for the workplace. Cardigans are fine but often they can be an afterthought on an outfit which can really bring down the professionalism of your look. This is a great way to style a comfy oversized cardigan for a workplace setting (swap out the faux leather pants for basic black trousers if the dress code is more conservative).

I absolutely adore this oversized cardigan but it is very bulky and overwhelmed my frame. The best solution was to add a belt which gave the cardigan a more flattering shape.

One of my favorite collars on an oversized cardigan is a waterfall collar like the one I am wearing in the above photo. It really softens the look and elevates it so much more.

I wasn’t sure I could wear a super long cardigan since I am only 5’4″ and many long outerwear pieces look ridiculous on my frame. But what made this one different is the waterfall collar and sizing down so the fit is as slim as possible. This make it look much more flattering yet still very comfortable and easy to style.
