Can You Mix Gold and Silver Jewelry? As someone who has really fallen in love with jewelry and using it to really enhance my day to day outfits, I have really enjoyed mixing silver and gold jewelry together in one look. It’s not that I never thought you could, but rather I wasn’t quite sure how to do it seamlessly. How to mix the two metals in a way that looked cohesive and not like things were looking mismatched. Wearing jewelry has been one of my favorite way to enhance simple looks and really showcase a bit more of my personal style. It can elevate a basic outfit and make it look more polished and often more expensive! Even a white tee and jeans can instantly look like a really stylish and Pinterest worthy look with the right mix of jewelry.

There is an unspoken rule regarding gold and silver jewelry and many people think wearing mixed metal pieces together is not correct. But there are certain ways to blend them together in one look which can make it easier and less daunting. Allowing for silver and gold to mix in your daily jewelry stacks also opens your jewelry collection up to more options and more pieces. More is more! LOL Here’s some examples of how I mix gold and silver jewelry in my outfits and some tips to help you do the same with your own pieces.

Can You Mix Gold and Silver Jewelry?

The short answer is yes, of course you can. But there is this idea wearing mixed metals is a fashion faux pas. That may have been a belief of the past or one that many people still feel, but I definitely believe that you can do it regularly in your daily looks. Mixing gold and silver jewelry can create a more interesting color story within your outfit and add more uniqueness and flair to a look. Out of the two metals, I do have more gold jewelry pieces than silver but I have slowly been adding in more silver pieces to allow for a mixed metal moment more often.

And I would venture to say that most people have more of one metal than the other so it’s ok to start small but adding in one or two pieces of the opposite metal to get yourself comfortable with how to blend them. It’s actually very on trend for gold and silver to be worn together and I have seen many jewelry pieces now come with both silver and gold in the same piece which makes it so easy to start mixing.

Choose pieces that are already mix metals

I know this sounds like an obvious choice but if you don’t own any pieces of jewelry that already mix silver and gold, it’s a great time to try it. Mixed metal pieces are trending right now so there are so many options available out there. Layered necklaces that blend silver and gold is one great option. One of my favorite and most worn mixed metal pieces of jewelry are my Heaven Mayhem mini knot earrings. They blend gold and silver in the most visually interesting way.

Stack identical pieces in gold and silver

Especially with rings or bracelets, purchase the exact same style in both silver and gold so you can stack them together. This is a great way to add both metals into your look without having to mix and match different styles of everyday jewelry. There are tons of great ring options that would look great stacked and offer options in both gold and silver. I also love the idea of buying similar gold and silver necklaces to wear together.

Add in diamond (or CZ) pieces

Some of my mixing of metals occurs from adding in a tennis necklace or tennis bracelet to my stacks. Even if the rest of the necklace is either gold or silver, adding in the diamond aspect automatically brings in some white or silver into your jewelry. This is your bridge between pieces that are only gold and silver. Adding in the diamond element makes them look more cohesive when worn together.

Choose one area to mix metals

You don’t necessarily have to mix metals in all areas of your jewelry. You can choose just to mix your rings or just your necklaces rather than every category of jewelry that you may want to wear.

Add in a watch

Often watches can help bring another metal element into your look that can allow you to easily mix metals. Especially if your watch has a dark silver or steel element, it easily looks great styled with gold bracelets or gold rings.

Start slow

Don’t worry about mixing and matching all your gold and silver jewelry every time you get dressed. Do it with pieces you feel comfortable combining together and then slowly experiment with more combinations over time.
