What Is Chic Style?
To me chic style is always rooted in looking effortlessly polished and put together. I did an entire blog post on tips for looking put together every day which I always recommend reading if you are needing tips. Additionally, I think of chic style as modern but still understated. Not too bold or flashy, accessorizing but not going overboard. It’s the type of style that stands the test of time and always looks current.
How To Look Chic in Fall?
Do Your Hair and/or Makeup
Making sure your hair and/or makeup is done is one of the easiest ways to instantly look chic. You don’t even have to opt for both every day but definitely choose one. If you want to do your makeup, then pull your hair back in a low ponytail or add a cute headband to not have to fully style it. If you want to do your hair, make sure your face is cleansed and moisturized. Also wearing makeup does not necessarily mean a full face. Wear what makes you feel comfortable.
Choose Bold Colors/Textures
The color palette for fall is a combination of neutral colors and rich tones. If you love a neutral brown, opt for rich chocolate this time of year. Swap out your classic denim for a dark wash. Invest in quality fabrics. Suede, leather, faux fur are made for this time of year so don’t be afraid to add it into your regular wardrobe. Mixing textures is also a great way to instantly look chic. I love an all black outfit that mixes different textures of black clothing to create a look that really stands out.
Add Layers
Since the weather is beginning to cool down but not get too cold, it’s the perfect time for light layers. Layers in an outfit is one of the ways to instantly make an outfit more chic. A simple sweater and jeans is great but adding a lightweight coat jacket, trench coat or a quilted vest over it will create a more multi-dimensional outfit.
Steam/Iron Your Outfits
This is more of a general rule of thumb for looking chic but be sure to give your pieces a quick steam or iron before wearing. Having crisp, wrinkle-free clothes will always make your outfit look more luxe and polished. I HATE ironing and don’t even know the last time I did it. But steaming my clothes takes less than 2 minutes. I personally love this steamer/iron combo because it’s so easy to use and leaves my clothes looking perfect.
14 Chic Outfits For Fall
Chic Fall Work Outfits
All Black Outfit with Various Textures

Outfit details: Blazer | Pants (similar) | Shoes | Bag (similar) | Sunglasses
This is exactly what I mean when I say mixing textures all in the same color instantly creates a chic look. The flat fabric of the blazer easily pairs with the faux leather pants. But instead of doing a regular leather shoe, I opted for patent leather. If you don’t have patent leather, choose a black flat with some added detail or even a pair of black fabric shoes such as tweed or satin. The monochromatic look creates a clean line but the textures give it style.
Midi Sweater Dress

Outfit details: Dress | Boots | Bag (similar) | Sunglasses
A sweater dress is a fall wardrobe staple because its suitable for work but would also be perfect to wear for an evening out. This particular one fits like a dream and falls just below the knee so it works effortlessly with knee high boots (ankle boots work best with a maxi length dress).
High Waisted Trousers with a Cashmere Sweater

Outfit details: Sweater | Trousers | Shoes | Bag (similar) | Belt | Necklace | Sunglasses
Wide leg trousers are a workplace staple but add some color with a bright cashmere sweater and a statement necklace. It allows you to bring a bit more of your personality into a look while still keeping it professional.
Striped Button Down Blouse with Trousers

Outfit details: Shirt (similar) | Trousers | Shoes | Belt | Bag (similar) | Sunglasses
There is something about the contrasting collar that I just adore for button down blouses. I feel like it is the epitome of chic because it’s bold without being too loud. Invest in quality accessories if your workplace attire requires you to be more professional because it will instantly elevate your look. A luxe belt or quality gold hoops will add those chic touches to your look.
Knit Cardigan with Faux Leather Pants

Outfit details: Cardigan (discount code: MAREE15) | Turtleneck | Pants (similar) | Shoes | Belt | Bag (similar) | Sunglasses
This cardigan is a mix between a blazer and cardigan so it’s a better option for the workplace. Cardigans are fine but often they can be an afterthought on an outfit so we choose something cheap and/or frumpy looking. That can really bring down the professionalism of your look. If you don’t want a traditional blazer, opting for these blazer/cardigan hybrids are the next best thing.
Chic Fall Travel Outfits
Cozy Lounge Set

Outfit details: Pullover | Pants | Vest (similar) | Shoes | Bag | Sunglasses
I am the queen of matching athleisure sets for my weekend or travel style. I don’t want to think about putting an outfit together but still want to look chic. The answer is always matching sets. I personally love adding a vest in the fall if I get cold because it’s not over stimulating for me but still looks chic. Also, if you do travel often, get a high quality, stylish tote bag that holds everything. This one has more compartments that I even have things to put in them! But it’s truly the best for travel.
Comfy Jumpsuit and Sneakers

Outfit details: Jumpsuit | Sneakers (similar) | Bag | Sunglasses
I know, I know – wearing a jumpsuit while traveling seems like an insane idea. But this particular one has a cut out in the back so you can slip the pants down when using the restroom. It’s truly genius! And always have a simple pair of clean white sneakers for your casual looks.
Puffy Vest and Athleisure Set

Outfit details: Pullover | Pants | Sneakers | Bag | Vest | Sunglasses
There are SO many different lounge sets available now so you don’t have to wear something unflattering and boring. This particular one has a cowl neck collar and a cinched waist. Even when wearing casual outfits, I want them to look chic and put together. It’s possible to be comfortable and stylish at the same time!
Chic Fall Casual Outfits
Quilted Jacket and Wide Leg Jeans

Outfit details: Jacket | Shirt (similar) | Jeans | Belt (similar) | Shoes | Bag | Sunglasses
You will notice that I am wearing the same wide leg dark wash jeans in almost all of my casual fall looks. They are the best style that goes with nearly ever fall outfit.
Printed Blouse and Jeans

Outfit details: Shirt | Jeans | Shoes | Bag (similar) | Sunglasses | Belt

Outfit details: Blouse | Jeans | Shoes (similar) | Belt (similar) | Bag | Sunglasses
If there is one look that I repeat over and over, it’s a printed blouse and jeans. It is my go-to look when I need to look put together with little to no effort.
Cardigan Styled with a Blouse

Outfit details: Cardigan | Shirt (similar) | Jeans | Shoes | Sunglasses | Bag
Fall is the best time for these light layers like wearing a cardigan over a button down blouse. I decided to go with metallic ballet flats to add some interest to the outfit instead of basic black flats.
Chic Fall Date Night Outfits
Midi Dress and Vest

Outfit details: Vest (similar) | Dress | Boots | Bag (similar) | Sunglasses
This printed midi shirt dress is a great daytime piece with boots and a tote bag. But adding a bold faux shearling vest over it makes it a perfect date night look. The vest is a bit more dramatic so a great evening outerwear choice.
Slip Skirt and Lady Jacket

Outfit details: Cardigan | Skirt (similar) | Boots (similar) | Sunglasses | Bag (similar)
A slip skirt is a year round wardrobe staple. It’s especially great in the fall/winter because it looks gorgeous worn with sweaters and knits. The combination of the silky fabric with a knit or sweater is a great balance.
