Visiting Annapolis

| , , ,

Spending most of my life only 20 minutes from the beach and Chesapeake Bay, I love the water. Well, I love enjoying sights by the water. While I can swim well, I am not an avid swimmer or water sports fan but rather I spent most of my life growing up enjoying activities by the beach, on the beach and around the beach. And the waterfronts surrounding these areas were always a great draw so spending the day visiting Annapolis recently was like revisiting all the memories from my childhood – great sights, fresh seafood and a refreshing breeze constantly coming off the water. Stan and I wandered around the downtown waterfront at Annapolis for a few hours on the most beautiful day a few weeks ago. We ate at the Iron Rooster (get the homemade pop tarts), grabbed some homemade ice cream afterwards, popped into a cute baby store after to pick up some new outfits for the little guy and strolled along the docks for the rest of the day.
Now that summer is in full swing, you won’t catch me out of the house for long periods of time without a hat which was essential on this particular day. The hat and dress was perfect for sightseeing around most of the day, while my slides may have been a better choice for a shorter excursion. They are exceptionally comfortable and so easy to wear, but walking around in something that flat for many hours can be a killer! But there were tons of benches and places to sit, so I managed to relax every 30 minutes or so. LOL This stretchy dress from GAP on the other hand was an absolute dream to wear. The tie at the waist makes it a bit more flattering than a simple black tank dress and the material is so comfortable. This would actually be the exact type of dress I would buy for summers at my office back in NYC. I would probably throw on a cute blazer or cardigan because the A/C froze us all but the length and style was office appropriate. Even though I no longer work in an office, I often still feel comfortable in pieces like this for my day to day activities and outings. Dresses and skirts will always win out over jeans/pants in my book!

Dress – GAP (also available in this color and this color) | Shoes – Saint Laurent (budget version here) | Bag – Cult Gaia | Hat – Hat Attack | Bracelet – Eddie Borgo (similar here)

Garden Envy

| , ,

A few weeks ago Stan and I visited another botanical gardens in the area and it was absolutely stunning. The place is called Ladew Topiary Gardens and spans out across acres and acres so a full day or at the very least a couple of hours is needed to see a significant part of the grounds. What I loved most about the gardens were the small secret gardens tucked away around every corner. Every time I walked to another part of the property, there was a hidden enclosed little garden with different flowers and a different feel from the rest. I know Stan only enjoys places like these for a few hours, but I honestly could have stayed an entire day getting lost in all the winding pathways or sat in the different gardens just enjoying the beauty of all the surroundings.
It was super hot on the day that we went, but I still opted for this long breezy shirtdress because of its additional protection from the sun and bug bites! The two large slits on both sides really helped to keep me cool and not make the dress feel too constricting. I also always wear a hat on very hot and sunny days because I do find that it keeps me significantly cooler in addition to shading my face. We are finally having more consistent warm days which is nice though I know the humidity and intense heat is around the corner. I am trying to enjoy as much as I can outside before it becomes unbearable. Anyone else do that? Try to cram as much as they can in during the nice weather to make up for the fact that they hibernate all through the worst parts of summer? Yeah, I feel you.

Dress – Tularosa (also loving this shirt dress and this one) | Hat – Rag & Bone | Sandals – Loeffler Randall (old but similar here and this metallic pair that are on sale) | Bag – Hat Attack | Necklace – Nashelle c/o
