Dressing Up a Casual Shirtdress

After working in the cosmetics industry for over a decade, I left it a few years ago with a wardrobe full of black. Black pants, black skirts, black tops - no color anywhere! Since I had to wear black every day to work, it slowly began to take over the rest of my weekend wardrobe. As a slight rebellion to that when I left, I began filling my closet with a ton of prints and bright colors because I finally could! However, there are certain things that really look amazing in black. A classic shirtdress is one of those items - it's easy to dress up with heels like I did above, or throw on with sneakers for a comfortable look. Because I still like my outfits to have a bit of detail that makes them different, I was drawn to this dress because of the hi/lo hem which I thought made it a bit more interesting. And pairing it with my black pumps made it feel more polished than a simple sandal or flat. I hadn't invested in a classic pair of black pumps in almost a decade - mainly because I was always distracted by another new shoe or style. *shiny object syndrome* Thank goodness I finally did because I find that I wear these a ton and there really is no substitution in one's closet for a basic wardrobe piece. Manolos are my preferred designer brand when it comes to pointy toe pumps because I find them to be the most comfortable for my feet. Some people swear by Louboutin or Jimmy Choo, but I have found their styles to be too narrow for me. And I went with the 90mm which is a bit higher than I normally wear on a daily basis, but I am happy I did. These are still comfortable enough to walk around in, but can easily be dressed up for the right occasion.

Stan and I are heading to Richmond next week for a few days, so we are excited to get out and explore again. Our trip down south really bit us with the travel bug so we are trying to plan day trips here and there over the next few months. Feel free to send me any recommendations of places to visit while I am there. Have a great weekend!
