Bright Summer Shift Dress

One of the best parts about summer weather is how easy it is to get dressed. A dress, sandals and in this case a scarf and I'm out the door. I saw this dress on the Nordstrom site a few weeks ago, and initially it didn't do much for me and honestly seemed a bit boring. Then after taking a look at all the patterned dresses I have in my closet, I felt it would be a welcome change to get something in a solid color. I initially wanted to get the black one, but knew that I needed to push myself to get something brighter for the summer. I love wearing this peach shade on my cheeks and lips, so why not in a dress?!

The fabric is quite thin and flimsy so I was concerned it may require a slip or spanx - which is never fun in the summer. Who wants to wear more layers when it's sweltering out? Not me. Surprisingly though, it is not as see-through as I imagined and just wearing regular seamless underwear (TMI I know, but we need to discuss these things and FYI these are my favorite) did the job. And to top it all off, this dress is the epitome of comfort. I suppose you could belt it if needed, but I love the billowy effect and on the day that these pictures were taken, it was 85 degrees and I felt nice and cool. It may not be a dress that lasts me for the next 10 years, but I can justify an affordable option that lasts me a few seasons. Not everything has to be an investment piece (though I do like the core of my closet to be things that stand the test of time - can't be buying a whole new wardrobe every season *insert money flying away emoji*).

Stan and I are embarking on our 30 day road trip this weekend, so stay tuned for lots of fun upcoming posts on that! I'm a bit nervous to be gone for so long (I'm such a homebody), but this is such a once in a lifetime experience that I am excited to share it with him and to celebrate his 40th! Any recommendations for Nashville, New Orleans, Savannah or Charleston, please let me know.

  1. Savannah is my favorite vacation spot. My husband and I went there 4 times a year before he passed away. I feel like I could write travel book about it. My favorite hotel is Marshall House, but I've stayed in many others. The restaurant at Marshall House, 45Bistro is also top notch. The Pirate House is a must see for dining. I recommend lunch there because they have a wonderful buffet. There's really so many options. I recommend taking a trolley tour as they will point out a lot of the important places. I hope you have a wonderful time on your vacation.
