Beauty Bits: The Cleanser Before The Cleanser

As if we don't already have enough to do- work, school, home, the shoe sale at Barneys - I will be adding something else to the mix - a second cleanser.  A cleanser before your cleanser.  Now I know what you are thinking - Maree I simply cannot do another step, I'm already at 97 each night (oh whoops that is me), but I assure you, adding a cleansing oil to your nightly skincare routine is 100% worth it.  Here's why - in my experience most cleansers whether foam, gel or cream remove only so much dirt and makeup, leaving residue that can lead to further breakouts.  I often find this residue when using my toner following, and the cotton pad is still dirty!  Cleansing oils actually break down the dirt and makeup, cutting through it all and removing thoroughly.  Since cleansing oils are so thorough in their own right, you could stop there, but I typically follow with my regular cleansers and have found my skin has never looked better.  Those two steps really ensure all the remnants of my day's face is completely off and my skin can breathe for the evening - and allow the rest of the treatments to fully work their magic.  Here are two of the most recent cleansing oils I have in rotation and am simply loving!  As the name states, the Dermalogica Pre-Cleanse actually positions itself as a cleanser before the cleanser - suggesting you use it before your regular cleansing routine - and my skin has simply loved it!  And the Shiseido Cleansing Oil is one I have heard rave reviews about and am happy to say lives up to all the hype.  Both I use with dry hands and a dry face, and then rinse with warm water.  No matter how much makeup I have piled (emphasis on pile) on that day - waterproof or not - it all dissolves effortlessly with both of these.

  1. Maree!
While I haven't used Dermalogica Pre-Cleanse, I have used Shiseido and it's a good cleansing oil but I've recently re-discovered DHC's Olive based Cleansing Oil and I find it even better. It rinses off COMPLETELY! I've taken toner afterwards and there is nothing on the cotton pad. I can't say the same for Shiseido. Given that it's an Olive based product it's got lots of good for your skin stuff in it. DHC makes a couple of cleansing oils with various scents, grapefruit, lavendar and there might be one more but I find that the unscented version works best for me. give it a whirl! You'll fall in love with it too!

    1. Hey Rose! I have not yet tried or heard anything about the DHC cleansing oil so I am excited to give it a go - your description about it sounds great! On my list! Hope all is well!
